(Lesson 2623)(02-27-19) John 1:6-10
“There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not.”
This lesson recognizes John the Baptist as a forerunner to prepare for the coming of Jesus the Christ. John was sent to teach the Jewish people to; “Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand”. That is the same message that Jesus preached, Mark 1:15; “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” It is also the same message that was preached by the seventy two disciples that Jesus sent out across the land of the Jews 10:9; “say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.”
The lesson also establishes the Jesus and God are one in the same and describes Jesus as the “True Light”, which means the Jesus is, to us, eternal salvation from the darkness of sin.
Tha last part of the lesson relates how the Jews, over all the time they were the “chosen” of God, had rejected and denied His council. It also signals that a and miraculous change was coming with Jesus, salvation, not by works of the law, but by faith in Him alone. ~
