(Lesson 2374)(06-14-18) Matthew 22:31-40
“But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine. But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
In today’s lesson, Jesus made a profound statement as He summed up what it takes to be obedient to God’s laws. In order to be in total with God’s laws, we must ONLY love God with all that we are, and next importantly, we aret to love our fellow man/woman as we love ourselves.
Sadly, there are many who still, and wrongfully, believe that in order to be in accordance with the perfect will of God, one must be obedient to every law that was ever handed down from God. Jesus came to live a perfect life for those who will believe in Him, knowing that it is impossible for man/woman to be perfect before God.
Jesus made it perfectly clear in today’s quote, that those whom have accepted Jesus Christ, and who love God wholeheartedly, and love their neighbors unceasingly, are in full accordance with God’s will. ~
