Lesson 2345

(Lesson 2345)(05-13-18) Matthew 16:24-28
“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.”

It is very important that we make particular note of what is said in the first sentence of today’s quote. According to the quote, Jesus said; “take up thy cross”. It is important to know that the “cross” as it is applied in the quote, is defined in the bible dictionary as a “club”. Therefore, in essence, the quote, in English, would be ‘take up your club (or weapon) and follow me.’
The point that Jesus was making to his disciples, is that, they should arm themselves for what was ahead of them, and to be prepared for the long haul as they followed Him.
In the last part of the quote, Jesus assured His disciples that He would return to reward those who had proven, throught their efforts, to be worthy of Him.
It is also worthy of note that all good comes from Christ, therefore, being worthy of Christ is to have faith in Him to impute His righteousness.~
