(Lesson 1937)(02-11-17) Acts 11:15-18
"And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life."
Today's quote laps back into yesterday's. This was necessary because there are two lessons included in those few verses.
In today's quote we should make note that Peter again made the comparison between the water baptism of John compared it to the soul saving Baptism of the Holy Ghost, which had just occurred in the house of Cornelius. When repeating what had happened at the house of Cornelius, Peter said, "remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ".
In today lesson Peter reaffirms that we receive salvation and the power of the Holy Ghost simply by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ. Again it is confirmed that water baptism has nothing to do with either.~
