(Lesson 1782)(08-30-16) Luke 18:15-17
"And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein."
Today's quote provides much of the basis for the erroneous belief that babies are to be "Christened" or "baptized" into the church soon after birth. "Baptizing" babies in water is a totally un-scriptural ritual tradition that is practiced by Roman Catholicism and many of it's spin-off denominations.
In truth, there is no scriptural foundation for "Christening" babies in water, under any circumstance.
What Jesus intended by what He said in today's quote is that unless a person abandons all other religious preconceptions, clearing his/her mind of all pre-established spiritual ideas, and enters into absolute belief in Christ with no caveats and with a mind as clear as that of a child, that person cannot be accepted into the church. In short, there are can be NO preconditions to becoming a child of God.~
