Lesson 1742

(Lesson 1742)(07-19-16) Luke 10 1-4

"After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way."

In today's quote, Jesus selected and sent out seventy two of his disciples to go ahead and make the way for His coming.

We should note that those seventy two disciples were sent to preach the same message that John the Baptist, the twelve apostles and Jesus Himself had taught. "In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying,Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." (Matthew 3:2)

"From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." (Matthew 4:17)

"These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand."

(Matthew 10:5-7)

It is also important to note that those seventy two disciples were to take wear no shoes nor money. They were told to be totally reliant upon faith in Jesus to provide for their needs.

I wonder how many of today's "Christians" would strike out barefoot to a strange place relying on nothing but their faith?~
