At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea."
Today's lesson makes it vividly clear that God is no respecter of persons and that within the church there are none who rise above others in the eyes of God.
It behooves us to remember that the kingdom of God is simply made up of sinners saved by grace. There are none who are considered better or worse than others, we are all equal before God.
Today, within so many representations of the church, there are those who will warm a pew every time the church doors swing, going to extremes to keep themselves from displaying any outward appearance of sin while in their hearts and in their daily lives they are egregiously violating one of the two "great" commandments by ignoring the needs of their neighbors, as well as the lost who happen to dwell outside their comfort zone.
In the latter part of today's quote, Jesus compared the newly saved to small children, implying that all of us whom are saved, must enter the kingdom having put away all traditions and beliefs while taking on the innocence and dependence of a child totally cleansed of all sin through faith in the shed blood of our savior.
Jesus said; "Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven."~
