Lesson 1399

(Lesson 1399)(07-31-15) Titus Chapter 3

"Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself. When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter. Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them. And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful. All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen."

In today's lesson, Paul again stressed that the children of God are to be a special people, separating themselves from earthly things while striving toward good works in everything we do.

Paul also reaffirmed that eternal life comes only through faith in Jesus Christ as opposed to being earned by the physical things we do; "For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, NOT BY WORKS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS WHICH WE HAVE DONE, BUT ACCORDING TO HIS MERCY HE SAVED US, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life."

There are many who contend that the phrase, "the washing of regeneration" somehow implies that one must be baptized or washed in water to achieve salvation, in reality, nothing could be further from the truth. If one simply reads the rest of that statement he/she learns that "That being JUSTIFIED BY HIS GRACE, WE SHOULD BE MADE HEIRS according to the hope of eternal life. Paul clearly establishes that it is by God's grace that salvation comes to the lost, not by the physical act of being immersed in water.~

Lesson 1398

(Lesson 1398)(07-30-15) Titus Chapter 2

"But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again; Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee."

In this lesson we, the children of God, are instructed to conduct our lives in a manner so as to lift up the Christian principles of goodness and mercy toward our brothers and sisters in Christ first and to everyone around us in general.

It is easy to spot a true Christian by the way they conduct themselves in their day to day dealings with their fellow man/woman. A true Christian will do whatever is necessary to make life easier and happier for those around them even at their own expense. Referring to making a determination between a good tree and a useless one, Jesus Said, "by their fruits ye shall know them." (Matthew 7:20) Paul also said, "Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." (Romans 12:20-21)

Those of us who represent Christianity today should take this lesson to heart and do all we can do to live our lives in a manner so as to uplift God the Father in everything we do, giving all praise and glory to Him through our Lord Jesus Christ.~

Lesson 1397

(Lesson 1397)(07-29-15) Titus 1:10-16

"For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith; Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth. Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate."

In today's quote, Paul gave a special warning about the actions and teachings of the Jews of his day and how those erroneous teachings would creep into Christianity.

It is evident that many of today's heretical "church" groups have adopted the very Jewish practices and beliefs Paul warned about in today's lesson. Many insist that in order to remain in the good graces of God and to maintain eternal salvation, one must live a perfect life without sin. That contention is false and in my opinion is a slap to the face of the true doctrine of Jesus Christ.

It is clearly evident, throughout the New Testament, that the physical things we do here on earth have no bearing on our eternal salvation, one way or another. Salvation comes through faith in the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ whose righteousness is imputed into us by faith; "Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin." (Romans 4:6-8)

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Once a person has been saved by the blood of Christ, he/she CANNOT lose that salvation by failing to live up to the laws that were imposed upon the ancient Jews, which disobedience thereof was "sin". In other words, a saved soul is incapable of doing anything that would again stain itself with mortal sin.

It is very true that a saved person must be wholly righteous in order to attain everlasting life, but he/she does not achieve that righteousness by obedience to any law; "Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.(Romans 4:4-5)

It is impossible for a saved soul to commit any sin sufficient to once again condemn that soul; "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. WHOSOEVER IS BORN OF GOD DOTH NOT COMMIT SIN; FOR HIS SEED REMAINETH IN HIM: AND HE CANNOT SIN, BECAUSE HE IS BORN OF GOD."(1 John 3:4-9)

Once a lost soul has been saved, his/her name is entered into the "Lamb's book of life" and sealed therein by the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ; "grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby YE ARE SEALED UNTO THE DAY OF REDEMPTION." (Ephesians 4:30 inpart)

Today's lesson clearly establishes that, just as Paul warned, the old Jewish heresy has been brought forward into the teachings of many of today's so-called churches and is still very much a slap to the face of the true gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.~

Lesson 1396

(Lesson 1396)(07-28-15) Titus 1:1-9

"Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour; To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour. For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee: If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers."

Today's quote again outlines the qualifications required of those who would aspire to be an office r in the church that was established by our Lord Jesus Christ.

In essence, those qualifications identified men who were decent in every regard and who were wholly devoted to the pure gospel of Jesus Christ.~

Lesson 1395

(Lesson 1395)(07-27-15) 2 Timothy Chapter 4

"I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me: For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry. And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus. The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments. Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works: Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words. At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick. Do thy diligence to come before winter. Eubulus greeteth thee, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren. The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen."

There is nothing I can add to this lesson except to say, Amen. Modern times have proven Paul to be exactly accurate on every prediction.~

Lesson 1394

(Lesson 1394)(07-26-15) 2 Timothy Chapter 3

"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was. But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."

Paul could not have been more accurate when making the predictions that are noted in today's quote.

The vast majority of what is today presented as representative of Christianity is a far cry from the simple doctrine of salvation by grace through faith that was taught by Jesus Himself then and passed on to His Apostles to be presented to us as the New Testament.

Many modern 'isms', have added countless bells and whistles, hoops and jumps, so as to have diluted the original message almost to the point of meaninglessness.

It is our duty as true Christian children of God to untangle the heresy and present the gospel of Jesus Christ as He intended. As was noted in a previous lesson, true Christian people are to, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD OF TRUTH." (2 Timothy 2:15)

Our duty to study never ends. With every reading of the gospel the Holy Spirit further confirms the value of our faith in Jesus Christ. With every reading we are also reminded of how we, as born again Christians, are to live out our lives.~

Lesson 1393

(Lesson 1393)(07-25-15) 2 Timothy 2:16-26

"But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work. Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will."

Today's is yet another very important lesson for the children of God. Herein, Paul clearly establishes that Christian people are to set themselves apart from those who would argue against the pure doctrine of Jesus Christ by altering His gospel message to fit their own evil agenda. Paul warned that the church is not made up of all good and faithful people, he referred to them as "gold" and "silver" but rather, within the church there are also bad seed, referenced herein as "wood" and "earth".

We should endeavor to teach the pure gospel of Jesus Christ to all those whom are willing to listen. However, we are to abstain from falling into pointless arguments with those who are willfully ignorant of that gospel.~

Lesson 1392

(Lesson 1392)(07-24-15) 2 Timothy 2:15

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Today's is a very short study but one of the most important lessons in the New Testament, so far as a child of God is concerned.

Just as Paul said in this verse, we are to continually study the word of God, forever purifying our knowledge of its content and intent.

There are many today, while claiming to be avid followers of Christ, truly have no clue as to what God's eternal plan for mankind is all about because they do not properly study the word of God.

The bible, in its entirety, beginning in the book of Genesis, lays out God's plan to redeem to the presence of God a fallen people. It, by recounting the history of the Jews and their complete failure of obedience to His law, demonstrates how mankind CANNOT redeem himself to that presence: It carefully forecasts the necessity and coming of Jesus Chris: It recounts His Life, death, burial, resurrection and ascension: It carefully explains how, through faith in His sin remitting sacrifice, mankind could once again, and finally, be redeemed to the presence of God for all of eternity.

Therefore, it behooves every one of us to study the bible daily in order to, 'show ourselves approved before God'. And then, once we have reached a certain level of understanding ourselves, we are to take it upon ourselves to teach others about the wonderful saving grace that is offered freely to all in God's Holy word and the divinely inspired gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.~

Lesson 1391

(Lesson 1391)(07-23-15) 2 Timothy 2:8-14

"Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound. Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers."

Today's lesson contains what Paul said, "is a faithful saying", if we are dead with Him, we shall also live with Him: If we suffer, we shall also reign with Him: if we deny Him, He also will deny us: If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: He cannot deny Himself." That is indeed a faithful saying.

Paul verified that even though he was still an "evil doer" his salvation was secured.

Lesson 1390

(Lesson 1390)(07-22-15) 2 Timothy 2:1-7

"Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully. The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits. Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things."

Today's quote contains more instructions from Paul to Timothy. Herein, Paul told Timothy to continue strong in the gospel of Jesus Christ and to pass it on to those "who shall be able to teach others also."

Paul also made it clear herein that anyone claiming to be a gospel teacher should stick strictly to that task while refraining from intermingling the gospel truth with the politics of the time.

Sadly today, the precious message of eternal salvation has become a political football kicked from pillar to post by many who claim to be the most adamant among "Christian" leaders.

The children of God are to; "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." (Mark 12:17 in part) Jesus made that statement while explaining that Christians were bound by law to pay tribute (taxes) to Caesar. However, that same rule applies to any action wherein a earthly government decision is made that might adversely concern Christians. In short, it is not the responsibility of Christian people to make the laws, it is, however, our responsibility to obey them within the parameters of the faith.

Paul made that point in today's lesson when he said, "No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier." In essence he told Timothy (And therefore all children of God) to stay out of politics so as to dedicate 100% of their time to administering the gospel of Jesus Christ.~

Lesson 1389

(Lesson 1389)(07-21-15) 2 Timothy Chapter One

"Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus, To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day; Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy; When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel: Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us. This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes. The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain: But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me. The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well."

Today's quote is an exhortation from Paul to Timothy asking him to stir up his own spirit and devotion toward the teaching of the gospel.

In the middle of this quote Paul relates something that is very important to every child of God today. He explained God's ultimate plan of salvation was designed and put into motion from the beginning, when, speaking of God, he said God, "saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel".

In the latter part of this quote Paul said, " Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus."

One of the greatest failures of so-called Christians today is the deliberate distortion and misuse of the gospel of Jesus Christ.~

Lesson 1388

(Lesson 1388)(07-20-15) 1 Timothy 6:17-21

"Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen."

In today's quote, Paul instructs Timothy to relate some very important advice to wealthy Christians.

This is a very important lesson in that one of the most difficult tasks for a wealthy man/woman is to keep their spiritual lives in balance while dealing with earthly wealth and power.

It is human nature, because of the disobedience of Adam, to want more of the luxurious material things in life, and there is nothing wrong with that. However while working to fulfill those wants it is very easy for a child of God to slip away from his/her devotion to the ministry of the gospel as they spend more and more time concerned with gaining more wealth and power.

Jesus said; "Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." (Matthew 19:23-24 in part)

Jesus had previously explained the reasoning lies behind that statement when he said; "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." (Matthew 6:24)

Therefore, it behooves every one of us, especially those who earn more than what is necessary to sustain life, to use any wealth with the continual guidance of the Holy Spirit through prayer, and only for the purposes outlined in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

When scriptural guidelines are followed, material wealth is a blessing just as Jesus promised.~

Lesson 1387

(Lesson 1387)(07-19-15) 1 Timothy 6:9-16

"But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen."

Herein, Paul warns Timothy about those who will chose money over their devotion to God. He also gave a direct commandment to Timothy; "But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses."

Every one of us (The children of God) who take it upon ourselves to teach and to spiritually minister to those in the church, should study closely these instructions that Paul has passed down to Timothy, and also to us.

Blessed be every worker who strives to further the divine will of God. Blessed be every worker who forever gives all glory and praise to God through Jesus Christ.~

Lesson 1386

(Lesson 1386)(07-18-15) 1 Timothy 6:1-8

"Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed. And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort. If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content."

In today's quote Paul required that the "servants" of men do their service honorably while uplifting their "masters" with their obedience. Today, thank God, we have no such "masters". However, we should still treat those in authority over us with the same respect as that which Paul demanded of the "servants" of his day. Paul's rule applied evenly toward both believing "masters" and those who did not believe.

In the latter part of the quote Paul warned that anyone who taught anything contrary to what he had instructed herein were; "proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness.~

Lesson 1385

(Lesson 1385)(07-17-15) 1 Timothy 5:17-25

"Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses. Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality. Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure. Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities. Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after. Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid."

In todays lesson Paul, in essence, instructed Timothy to lift up the elders in the church and to respect and apply their wisdom. He instructed that sinners should be pointed out for what they had done and that judgment should be publicly be made against them. Paul made it clear that any judgment made against any member of the church be made with an even hand, never preferring one person over another.

This text also makes it apparent that the same type people who cause so much trouble in today's churches were doing the same things even during the time of Paul's ministry.~

Lesson 1384

(Lesson 1384)(07-16-15) 1 Timothy 5:1-16

"Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity. Honour widows that are widows indeed. But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God. Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day. But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth. And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless. But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man, Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work. But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. For some are already turned aside after Satan. If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed."

The times have changed so much today so as to eliminate the necessity of a great part of this list instructions Paul left us with in today's quote concerning widows and how the church should deal with them.

However, it is still the obligation of every child of God to tend to the needs of widows, widowers, or anyone else who might be struggling to make ends meets.

Remember the great commandments Jesus gave us when asked; "Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." If we indeed abide by these two simple commandments we will have fulfilled the duties Paul charged Timothy with in today's quote.~

Lesson 1383

(Lesson 1383)(07-15-15) 1 Timothy 4:10-16

"For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. These things command and teach. Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee."

This quote, as is the majority of this letter, was an explicit direction from Paul to Timothy and others, as to how they should conduct themselves in their ministries and as the leaders (Bishops) of their churches. This direction should be noted and followed by every child of God who seeks to be a leader among a congregation of believers.

Although gospel preachers and teachers are themselves no more than sinners saved by the grace of God, they should constantly strive to set themselves apart from others by both their Godly actions and reactions.

If today, all those who claim to be preachers of God's word were to follow Paul's simple directions, they would be far more believable and respected by both their followers in the church and those lost souls who so desperately need to hear the true gospel of Jesus Christ crucified and risen. The message is simple; "if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (Romans 10:9)~

Lesson 1382

(Lesson 1382)(07-14-15) 1 Timothy 4:1-9

"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation."

In the first part of today's quote, Paul predicted the inevitable falling away of some from those who professed Christ in the beginning. He also predicted the coming of false doctrines such as Catholicism, Mormonism, along with the hundreds of other heretical "faiths" that have come to be in modern times.

Paul said, "in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth." There could hardly be a clearer description of what would, at that time become and now is, the Roman Catholic "Church".

Herein, Paul warned of the very things that would become the basic tenets of Catholicism et al. For many years they forbade the eating of meat on Fridays, and still refuse to allow priests and nuns to marry.

As is evident within today's text, even as early as the time of Paul's ministry, Roman Catholicism had begun to distort the gospel truth by forwarding Satan's ambition to undermine and destroy the efforts of the one true church.

It is the Christian duty of every child of God to point out the wisdom that Paul demonstrated in this lesson. It is also our obligation to point out and teach others to beware of, not only Catholicism, but all of the many false doctrines devised to steer lost souls away from the saving grace of God.

Remember, Paul and Silas were asked; "Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." (Acts 16:30-31 in part.)~

Lesson 1381

(Lesson 1381)(07-13-15) 1 Timothy 3:8-16
"Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly: But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."

Today's quote relates the qualifications of a deacon in the church. Sadly there are those groups, claiming to be Christian churches, that have appointed all manner of men to be deacons.
This again likens today's "churches" to the church at Laodicea that is mentioned in Revelations; "And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth." (Revelation 3:14-16) ~

Lesson 1380

(Lesson 1380)(07-12-15) 1 Timothy 3:1-7

"This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil."

Today's quote relates the requirements for becoming a bishop. Strong's bible dictionary defines a bishop as the overseer of a church, the same as a pastor. Therefore in order to qualify as pastor of any legitimate church, the candidate must meet all the requirements Paul laid out in today's quoted text.

There are many who contend that a pastor (preacher) must have, at some point, received a specific call from God to that office. According to what Paul wrote here, that contention doesn't hold up. The office is one that a person "desires" not one he is 'called' to. Although, a man who truly demonstrates desire to do the work of a bishop has surely devoted himself wholly to the gospel of Jesus Christ, and therefore would appear to have been specifically called to that obligation.

The important thing to remember from this lesson is that there are, as today's quote demonstrates, specific qualifications that must be met before a man can be declared a bishop, or overseer of a church.~

Lesson 1379

(Lesson 1379)(07-11-15) 1 Timothy Chapter 2

"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety."

In the first part of today's quote, Paul exhorts all Christians to continue in prayer for all mankind, be they friend of foe.

In the latter verses, Paul cautioned Christian women not to over adorn themselves so as to hide their Godliness. He also instructed Christian women to; "learn in silence with all subjection".

However, he followed that statement with this, "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." Paul did not make it clear as to whether that commandment was passed through him from Jesus or whether it was his personal opinion.

There is however, scripture written by Paul himself that seems to contradict what he said in this text and that allows for women to be teachers. Such is in the example of Aquila and Priscilla whom Paul referred to as; "Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus". He clearly intended for both to be acknowledged for their work.

Further, Aquila AND Priscilla taught the gospel "more clearly" to Apollos; "And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus. This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly." (Acts 18: 24-26)

They, meaning both Aquila, and Priscilla, taught Apollos the gospel of Jesus Christ, "more perfectly". In my opinion, women are not scripturally barred from teaching the gospel.~

Lesson 1378

(Lesson 1378)(07-10-15) 1 Timothy 1:12-20

"And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme."

In the above quote, Paul disclosed the horrible sins of his past, told of his conversion, and again expressed the reason for the coming of Jesus Christ. "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners''.

In the latter part of the quote Paul charges Timothy to carry on the good and faithful work giving all praise and glory to our forgiving and merciful God.~

Lesson 1377

(Lesson 1377)(07-08-15) 1 Timothy 1:1-11

"Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope; Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord. As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust."

In today's quote, Paul reminded Timothy to keep a tight rein on his fellow Christians and warned again of the weakness among the Jewish converts as they would try to reinstate the Law.

Herein, Paul made it vividly clear that the children of God are not subject to the commandments of the Law when he established for whom the Law was actually written in the first place. Paul said, "Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine".

Far too many of today's "Christians" still insist that God's people should be bound to the restrictions of the old Law, even insisting that the Ten Commandments be posted in public places. Paul made it very clear in the above text that the Law was NOT written for those of us whom have had the righteousness of Jesus Christ imputed into us through faith in Him. It was instead written for those lost souls who reject the justification for sin granted through faith in Jesus Christ. In Romans 5:8-9, Paul said, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being NOW JUSTIFIED by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him."

As we see herein, the rules of the law have nothing to do with attaining or keeping eternal salvation.

We, the children of God are to live our lives, not according to the rules of the law, but rather by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and by the standards He set out for us in Matthew 22:37-40, "Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."~

Lesson 1376

(Lesson 1376)(07-08-15) 2Thessalonians 3:6

"Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us."

For today's lesson we will continue with the explanation of what sin is to a born again child of God as compared to what sin is to someone who is still lost and apart from God.

The spirit, or "inner man", of a child of God does not commit sin; because God's seed remains in him: and he CANNOT sin, because he is born of God.

Therefore, the soul of a saved person, through his/her faith in the redeeming sacrifice of Jesus Christ, is eternally sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption and eternally protected from the spiritual death that was inherent in all humanity, from Adam. However, so long as a child of God is still in the flesh he/she is still subject to the sins of the flesh and are also subject to earthly punishment for those sins.

Speaking of himself and his own struggles with sin in the flesh, Paul said, "For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me." (Romans 7:18-20)

Once a person has accepted Jesus Christ salvation cannot, and will not, be taken from that child of God because of sins in the flesh, that person does, however, remain subject to the wrath of God, through Christ, while they are still here on earth. For each and every sin that a child of God commits against each other here on earth, that person will be punished here on earth.

Contrarily, those who have rejected Jesus Christ, are still condemned to die the spiritual death and will spend eternity in hell "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."

To summarize all this, it must be said that when Paul warned the Thessalonians to; "withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly", He was not saying that we should withdraw from everyone who are guilty of sins in the flesh, but rather, we are to shun those who deny God and His amazing saving grace.~

Lesson 1375

(Lesson 1375)(07-07-15) 2Thessalonians 3:6

"Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us."

For today's lesson, I want to go back to the above quote from the third chapter of Thessalonians.

I feel there needs to be a distinction drawn between what is sin in the eyes of mankind and what sin actually is in the sight of God.

To do this, we must go back to Genesis and determine what Adam did that caused himself and all of mankind to be condemned to die in the spirit and eternally separated from the presence of God.

Adam blatantly disobeyed a commandment that had come straight from the mouth of God; "The LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." (Genesis 2:16-17)

We all know that Adam did indeed eat of that forbidden fruit and was subsequently declared dead in the spirit and totally separated from God until such a time as he would partake of the fruit of the "tree of Life"; "And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life." (Genesis 3:22-24)

The "tree of life" is Jesus Christ now crucified, risen, and ascended.

We must understand that before Adam disobeyed God there were no such thing as sin in the flesh so far as He and Eve were concerned. They could have invited the folks from the land of Nod and had a huge drunken party with everyone dancing around naked, and there would have been absolutely nothing wrong in God's eyes.

You may by now be thinking I'm crazy, but we must remember, Adam and Eve only had to obey one rule, they could not eat the forbidden fruit, everything else was fair game. The bible even tells us that Adam and Eve had no shame for their nakedness until they disobeyed God, ate of the forbidden fruit and became aware of good and evil.

Those of us whom have accepted Jesus Christ as savior, who have placed our faith in Him have eaten from the fruit of the tree of life, have allowed the righteousness of God's only Son to be our own righteousness, have had the sin of Adam erased form our spiritual inner man/woman, and are essentially back in the Garden of Eden where there is no sin that will be charged to our souls. It is impossible for the spirit of a saved person to commit sin; "Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God." (1 John 3:9)

Once the soul of a person is saved it is sealed by the Holy Spirit until the until Jesus returns to claim His own; "And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption."~

Lesson 1374

(Lesson 1374)(07-06-15) 2Thessalonians Chapter 3

Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you: Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us. For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all. The salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token in every epistle: so I write. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen."

I know as a comment to yesterday's lesson I said there was nothing else that could be said that would make Paul's lesson in the third chapter of Thessalonians any plainer, and, as it pertains to the intent of the text, there is not. However, there is another lesson that can be taken from a part of what is said therein.

In this quote, Paul said, "Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us."

There are many today who understand this commandment to mean that a child of God can't be around anyone who is not a child of God themselves nor can they do anything that falls outside the restrictions of the original commandments. That contention is dead wrong.

We must remember that Jesus fulfilled every element of the Law for those of us whom have placed our faith in Him. God intends that His children live happy and enjoyable lives. He does not expect us to go through life with our heads down in submission while avoiding anyone who might not believe as we do. God never intended that we avoid everything that might bring a smile to our faces.Thank God for His amazing grace.

Most of what today's "Christianity" refers to as "sin", is not sin at all. Unless an act actually is intentionally done to hurt someone or is in direct disobedience to one of the great commandments, it is not sin. Jesus clearly explained what is involved in keeping the commandments during His ministry. When He was asked; "Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."

The last lines of that quote sum up this lesson, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. And thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

If everything we do is done within the parameters of these two commandments, we will have no sin charged to us before God.~

Lesson 1373

(Lesson 1373)(07-05-15) 2Thessalonians Chapter 3

"Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen."

In this third chapter of Thessalonians, Paul perfectly laid out the instructions by which every child of God should conduct themselves in their everyday lives.

There is nothing I can add nor take away from this text that would make Paul's thoughts any clearer than he made them in this lesson.~

Lesson 1372

(Lesson 1372)(07-03-15) 2Thessalonians Chapter 2

"Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle. Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work."

In today's quote we are given the description of the anti-Christ, (Though Paul did not identify him as such.), and are warned that his eventual rise must be accomplished before Jesus will return to claim His victory of sin. Paul also warned the Thessalonians to remain faithful and to ignore those who would contend that they knew the time of Christ's return.

Paul said there will be a "great falling away" before Christ returns. That "great falling away" has surely now already begun. That is clearly evident by the vulgar attempts, by some today, to horribly distort the meaning and intent of God's divine word. The recent actions by some who loudly proclaim themselves "Christians", blatantly confirm it.

The stage is rapidly being set for the coming of that great evil Paul warned the Thessalonians about. World governments are once again becoming deeply involved in what should be purely religious worship activity as the whole world rights itself for the coming of one man religious rule.

The end of the earth, as we know it, is inevitable, however, it is up to each of us individually to find and accept the amazing saving grace of God through our Lord Jesus Christ. It is the duty of every Christian to teach it.

As was mentioned in yesterdays lesson, we, as born again children of God, should go about daily spreading that wonderful good news of that amazing grace, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God".~

Lesson 1371

(Lesson 1371)(07-03-15) 2Thessalonians Chapter 1

Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth; So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ."

In today's quote, Paul sends greetings to the church at Thessalonica and again praises them for their steadfastness and faith.

This lesson is yet another that should be studied intently by the children of God today so that we all might understand what is required of those of us who identify ourselves as Christians.

Among the first compliments that Paul passed to the Thessalonians was for their diligence toward their faith and caring for one another; "We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth; So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure".

If today's Christian churches would take up this challenge we would be fulfilling a direct commandment from Jesus Christ; "Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 5:13-16)~

Lesson 1370

(Lesson 1370)(07-02-15) 1Thessalonians 5:12-28

"And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves. Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. Brethren, pray for us. Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss. I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen."

In today's quote, Paul again encourages the Thessalonians to see to the needs of those who struggle, and to respect those in positions of authority.

Paul also encouraged them to "pray without ceasing", to stay vigilant in the ministry while doing all things for the honor and glory of God.

We, the children of God today, are bound to conduct ourselves in the same manner as Paul instructed the Thessalonians herein.~

Lesson 1369

(Lesson 1369)(07-01-15) 1Thessalonians 5:1-11

"But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do."

Today's lesson warns us that the day and time of the return of Jesus is not and cannot be known by anyone. However, Paul also warns the children of God to be alert and constantly looking for the signs of His return. Although we cannot know the exact day or hour we can know when the time is near, "Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors." (Matthew 24:32-33)

The signs of the times have never been more perfect than now for the return of our Lord Jesus. It behooves us all to be even more diligent in our efforts to teach the amazing grace of God through Jesus Christ to everyone who is willing to listen.~
