"Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.'
Although, as described in today's quote, the Roman soldiers dividing up Jesus' clothes, and casting lots for His coat, had very little to do with the divine, and literally earth shaking, events of the day. This small, insignificant event, recorded only to demonstrate the uncaring attitude of those soldiers, caused "Christianity" to totally condemn gambling in any form, forever.
Even though there is no other reference to gambling, either for or against, in the rest of the entire bible the "Christian" stance is totally against gambling. Which, for the loser, is never a good thing. And, we can all agree that the ambience of gambling is not helpful to those involved. ~
