"I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you."
In the first line of today's quote, Jesus said, "I have yet many things to say unto you, but YE CANNOT BEAR THEM NOW."
Jesus knew that His followers could not possibly understand the concept of salvation by grace through faith, nor why it would be necessary for Him to die until He had fully completed His divine mission as a sacrifice for the sins of the world, and was resurrected from that death.
To ease their anxiety, Jesus told them that the Holy Spirit would soon come and explain all the details of His doctrine at a time when they could better understand: "when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth".
Jesus went further to explain that the Holy Spirit would advise them as to the things to come. Speaking of the coming Holy Spirit, Jesus said; "whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come."
In the last part of today's quote, Jesus, for the first time, Identifies the Holy Spirit as the third part of the Holy Triune; The Father, the Son, and The Holy Ghost.
The Holy Triune makes up the full identity of God as it applies to His provision for the redemption of mankind.
Remember, in Matthew 28:19, Jesus said; "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, *baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost"(The Holy Triune). This instruction obligated the Apostles to *baptize, or to sanctify, the lost within the concept of the Holy Triune, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.~
*The term "baptizing", as it is applied in the above quote, does not, by any means, relate to a water "baptism", it simply means that believers were/are to be secured, or sanctified within, and justified by, the authority and power of the Holy Triune. The correct reading of the passage commands that believers were/are to be sanctified by the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
