Lesson 4445

 (Lesson 4445)(04-04-24) Luke 22:28-34 

“Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations. And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me; That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death. And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.” 

 

In today’s quote, Jesus commended the disciples for staying with Him through His trials and promised them a kingdom, just as God had granted one to Him. He told them they would eat and drink at His table in His kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. However, Specifically addressing Peter, He predicted that Peter would deny knowing Him three times before the rooster crows in the morning. Despite Peter's assurance that he is ready to go to prison and even die for Jesus, Jesus firmly assured him of his impending denial.~ 

Lesson 4444

(Lesson 4444)(04-03-24) Luke 22:24-27 

And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.” 

 

In today’s quote, a dispute arose among the apostles about which of them should be considered the greatest. Jesus addressed that contention by contrasting the worldly notion of greatness, where authority is exercised over others, with the principle of greatness in the Kingdom of God. He explained that the greatest among them should be like the youngest and the one who rules like the one who serves. Jesus then points to Himself as an example of that principle, stating that although He is their teacher and master, He is among them as one who serves. This passage underscores Jesus' teaching on servant leadership and the inversion of conventional social hierarchies in the pursuit of godly greatness.~

“But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table. And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed! And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.” 

In today’s quote, Jesus announced at the Last Supper that one of the apostles present would betray Him. Despite being chosen as His close companions, Jesus revealed that His betrayer was among them, which led to confusion and suspicion. The apostles began to question among themselves who could possibly commit such an act, deeply troubled by the notion that one of their own, sharing in their fellowship and ministry, would betray their Lord. This moment is poignant, marking the fulfillment of prophecy and the beginning of the events leading to Jesus' crucifixion.~

Lesson 4442)(04-01-24) Luke 22:14-20 

And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.”  

 

In today’s quote, Jesus shared the Passover meal with His disciples, an event that became the institution of the Lord's Supper or Communion. As they gather around the table, Jesus expresses His deep desire to eat this Passover with them before He suffers, indicating the significance of this moment before His crucifixion. He then takes a cup, gives thanks, and shares it with them, speaking of it as the cup of the new covenant in His blood, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Following this, Jesus takes bread, gives thanks, breaks it, and gives it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me." Similarly, He takes the cup after supper, declaring that it represents His blood of the new covenant. That moment marked the establishment of the Lord’s Supper, a foundational ritual for many His followers, it symbolized Jesus’ sacrifice and serves as a perpetual reminder of His love, sacrifice, and the new covenant between God and humanity.~  

It is very important to note the Jesus said it is HIS BLOOD that remits sin, NOT water.
