“Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.”
As John the Baptist traveled throughout Israel, many Jews came to him confessing their sins and physically preparing themselves for the coming of the Messiah by receiving his water baptism, which is a Jewish ceremonial cleansing, not a means of actually removing sin but rather a removing of the “filth of the flesh” as required by their laws. ~
