(Lesson 4692)(12-09-24) Acts 21:37-40
“And as Paul was to be led into the castle, he said unto the chief captain, May I speak unto thee? Who said, Canst thou speak Greek? Art not thou that Egyptian, which before these days madest an uproar, and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers? But Paul said, I am a man which am a Jew of Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and, I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people. And when he had given him licence, Paul stood on the stairs, and beckoned with the hand unto the people. And when there was made a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew tongue ~
In today’s quote, as Paul was about to be taken into the barracks, he asked the Roman commander if he could speak to the people. Surprised that Paul spoke Greek, the commander permitted him to speak. Paul addressed the crowd, telling them that he was a Jew from Tarsus in Cilicia. He asked if he could speak to them, and when they heard him speak in Hebrew, they became silent, eager to listen. Paul then began to speak to the people, but the passage ends with the crowd waiting to hear what he would say next. ~
