(Lesson 4579)(08-17-24) John 19:28-30
After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”
In today’s quote, as Jesus was on the cross, knowing that everything had been accomplished and to fulfill Scripture, He said, "I thirst." After receiving sour wine on a sponge, Jesus declared, "It is finished!" Then, He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. This passage marks the completion of Jesus' earthly mission, signifying that His work of atonement was finished when He surrendered His life for the sins of the world. ~
