Lesson (2989)(03-06-20) 2 Timothy 2:16-18
“But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.”
Today’s lesson is yet another very important one. (as is every lesson in the New Testament) Herein, Paul followed his instruction to study with a warning of what will happen if we remain ignorant as to every point of the true gospel of Jesus Christ, both in fact and in it’s intended context. He referred to Hymenaeus and Philetus, two men who, like many today, preached heresy and tried to wrongfully influence the church. There are literally thousands upon thousands of men, and women, today who preach a distorted version of the gospel. Some out of ignorance to the truth and some out of Satan’s guidance.
Paul’s purpose in these lessons was to encourage the members of the early chruches, as well as we today, to study so that when false teachers arise we are prepared to defend God’s word against their efforts. We cannot win the battle against Satan unless we prepare ourselves with the true armor of God. That being full knowledge and understanding of His divine word.~
