Lesson 2647

(Lesson 2647)(03-23-19) John 5:24-27
“ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.”

Today’s lesson contains a very important and powerful message straight from the mouth of our Lord. It is very important that we dissect that message carefully in order to fully grasp what is actuallly intended.
Jesus said; “He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” The promise clearly is that whosoever believes in the virgin born life, death, burial, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ “HATH”, (“Hath” is a present tense word that means one presently owns or has possession of.), everlasting life. Jesus also promised that the believer SHALL (“Shall” is a command that expresses unstoppable future outcome.) not come into condemnation. But “IS” (The word “Is” describes existing, undeniable fact.) passed from death unto life.
Sadly, this specific definition of the terminology applied to today’s quote is necessary to debunk the erroneous contention, made by many so-called Christians, that in order to gain eternal life, one must jump through a series of hoops, water baptism etc. As this lesson clearly establishes, there is ONLY one step to eternal salvation, that is to place one’s faith in the sin remitting power our Lord Jesus Christ.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: It is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
