(Lesson 2292)(03-21-18) Matthew 6:16-18
“But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.”
In today’s lesson Jesus provided instructions as to how His disciples should conduct themselves as they practiced the Hebrew tradition of fasting. Although fasting is rare among today’s “Christians”, it is my opinion that that expression of humility, should be just as common today as it was during the ministry of Jesus.
Although I have never practiced fasting as a means of humbling myself before God, I offer no excuses, I am just as guilty as anyone else who neglects this clear scriptural instruction.
May God help us all to better adhere to His divine word.~
