(Lesson 1985)(04-09-17) Romans 4:4-5
"Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness."
Today's quote is another very short one but also a very important one.
Therein Paul establishes that if a person must work to achieve a certain payment or reward, that payment or reward cannot be classified as a gift but rather, it must be classified as payment for some work that has been done.
If I might draw an anology, if I hire you to dig a ditch and pay you $20 for your effort, the money you receive is not a gift, but rather is payment I owe you for a job you've done.
Therefore, the righteousness that God demands of His children, cannot be achieved by works of the flesh, but rather, that righteousness can ONLY be imputed into a lost soul through faith in Jesus Christ.~
