(Lesson 4191)(07-13-23) Matthew 28:16-20
“Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Today, we will explain the baptisms performed by John the Baptist. We will also explain why Jesus was baptized in water.
It is important to note why John baptized in water. John, himself, made that very clear when he said, “I indeed bapize you with water unto (toward or before) repentance”.
It is also VERY important to note that John pointed out a distinct difference between the purpose of water baptism and the baptism that saves one’s eternal soul. That being the soul saving baptism that Jesus would perform with fire and with the Holy Ghost.
As was stated in yesterday’s lesson, John baptized in water by order of the of the Law of Moses. He did it to physically cleanse the bodies of his followers BEFORE they repented.
Jesus had NO sins to wash away, therefore, He was baptized for the exact same purpose that was required by the Law of Moses. He was baptized in water to cleanse His body before He committed Himself to the sacrifice of His own life for the sins of every soul who would believe in Him, the ultimate sacrifice.~
This lesson will continue tomorrow.
