Lesson 4209

 (Lesson 4209)(07-31-23) Mark 3:1-6

“ And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand. And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him. And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth. And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace. And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other. And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.”

In today’s quote, after Jesus had healed a man’s withered hand, the Jewish leadership set about looking for ways they could “destroy” Him.~

Lesson 4208

 Mark w:23-27

And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn. And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him? How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him? And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.”

In todays quote, Jesus made it clear that eating corn on the sabbath was not in defiance of the law and that God is Lord of all days.~

Lesson 4270

 (Lesson 4207)(07-29-23) Mark 2:18-22

“ And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not? And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days. No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse. And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.”

In today’s quote, when challenged because His apostles didn’t fast, Jesus made the point that so long as He was with them, they need not fast to prove their devotion to Him.

In referencing old and new bottles and clothes, the lesson also relates that the old laws of the Jews would not apply to the new law of salvation by grace through faith.~

Lesson 4206

 (Lesson 4206)(07-28-23) Mark 2:15-17

“And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him. And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners? When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

In today’s quote, when Jesus was confronted by the Scribes and Pharisees, He stated that He associated with sinners because they are whom He came to save. Praise God for His amazing saving grace!~

Lesson 4205

(Lesson 4205)(07-27-23) Mark 2:13-14

And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them. And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.

In today’s quote, Jesus selected Levi, the tax collector, as one of His twelve apostles.~

Lesson 4204

 (Lesson 4204)(07-26-23) Mark 2:1-12

“And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house. And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them. And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four. And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay. When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. But there was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only? And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts? Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.”

Today’s quote relates that Jesus continued demonstrating His miraculous power by healing the sick to the astonishment of everyone who saw Him.~

Lesson 4203

 (Lesson 4203)(07-25-23) Mark 35-45

“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. And Simon and they that were with him followed after him. And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee. And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth. And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils. And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed. And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away; And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.”

Today’s quote relates that, after Jesus healed the leper, He instructed the man to go and obey the Law of Moses by making the proper offering.

It is important to note that Jesus was teaching the people to obey the law until such a time as He had completed His divine mission.

Jesus also told the leper to tell no one what had happened to him, whereafter, the man, like we probably would today, told everyone he saw causing the multitudes to flock to Jesus.~

Lesson 4202

(Lesson 4202)(07-24-23) Mark 29-34

“ And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her. And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them. And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils. And all the city was gathered together at the door. And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.”

Today’s quote relates that, after healing Peter’s mother-in-law, Jesus healed many others.~

Lesson 4201

 (Lesson 4201)(07-23-23) Mark 21-28

“ And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught. And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes. And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him. And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him. And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.”

In today’s quote, Jesus impressed the hierarchy of the Jews with His infinite knowledge of their laws and doctrine.

Jesus also removed an “unclean spirit” from the man in the temple, another act that amazed the Jews.~

Lesson 4200

 (Lesson 4200)(07-22-23) Mark 16-20

“ Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him. And when he had gone a little farther thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets. And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.”

Today’s lesson quote, from Mark’s account, relates how Jesus began selecting His twelve apostles. Peter and Andrew first, then James and John.~

Lesson 4199

 (Lesson 4199)(07-21-23) Mark 14-15

“ Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

Today’s quote verifies that after the imprisonment of John, Jesus began to preach the same message that John the Baptist had preached. He told His Jewish brethren to repent, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom if God is at hand”.~

Lesson 4198

(Lesson 4198)(07-20-23) Mark 12-13

“And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness. And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.”

Today’s quote relates the temptation of Jesus whereat He rebuked and rejected Satan.~

Lesson 4197

(Lesson 4197)(07-19-23) Mark 9-11

“And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Today’s quote relates that Jesus was baptized in water by John the Baptist as was demanded of all Jews by the Law of Moses.

It was necessary, under the Law, that Jesus wash His body so as to be physically clean before undertaking the mission that God the Father had placed upon Him. God recognized Him after He had begun to fulfill the Law.

Jesus WAS NOT baptized to become the Son of God, He was baptized because He IS the Son of God.~

Lesson 4196

 (Lesson 4196)(07-18-23) Mark 6-8

“And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey; And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.”

In today’s quote, Mark’s account, John the Baptist belittles the water batpisms he performed in compariso to the baptism that Jesus would soon bring.

John taught that Jesus would bring the baptism that saves the eternal souls of mankind, the baptism “with the Holy Ghost”.~

Lesson 4195

 (Lesson 4195)(07-17-23) Mark 1:5

“And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.”

It is important to note that the Jewish brethren, that John baptized in water, were baptized (washed) BEFORE they confessed their sins. This quote, AGAIN, demonstrates that water baptism plays NO role in the remission of sins, or, the salvation of one’s eternal soul.

“To Him give all the prophets witness, that through His name WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHALL RECEIVE REMISSION OF SINS.” (Acts 10:43)

Baptism into water DOES NOT remit sins. Immersion, by faith, into the virgin born life, death, burial, resurrection and ascension of Jesus is THE ONLY baptism that remits the sins of mankind.

“Therefore being JUSTIFIED BY FAITH, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1)~

Lesson 4194

(Lesson 4194)(07-16-23) Mark 1:1-4

“The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God; As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.”

Today’s quote relates Mark’s account of the coming of John the Baptist, and his mission as an emmisary from God. John was to; “Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight”.

In John’s effort to prepare the way of the Lord, he was to physically cleanse (baptize) the bodies of those who sought to repent their sins in order to prepare themselves for the coming of Messiah and His amazing, saving grace.~

Lesson 4193

 (Lesson 4193)(07-15-23) Matthew 28:16-20

“Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Today’s lesson is a summary of the last few concerning the meaning and intent of the word “baptizing” as it appears in Jesus’ last instructions to His apostles.

So far, we have established that John the Baptist came preaching the coming of the church, and to “baptize (cleanse) His followers with water unto (toward or before) repentance”.

We’ve established that John’s water baptism was required of all devout Jews, under the Law of Moses, before they entered into ANY religious exercise.

We also learned  that Jesus came to baptize “with the Holy Ghost and with fire”. Jesus performed a totally different baptism, one that “justitfieth” the eternal souls of those who believe in Him.

It is my confirmed belief that the word “baptizing”, as it appears in Matthew 28:19, has nothing to do with water, but rather, defines the process of teaching the lost, and immersing them into, the whole concept of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.~

Lesson 4192

 (Lesson 4192)(07-14-23) Matthew 28:16-20

“Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Today we will determine the original intent of the term “baptizing” as it is applied in the quote of Jesus last instructions to His apostles.

The phrase “in (into, as it is applied in this lesson) the name of” means: to be submersed or buried into the whole identity of, or, the whole concept of the Father AND the Son AND the Holy Ghost. This can be verified by reading Acts 8:12, “But when they believed Philip PREACHING the things concerning the kingdom of God, AND, “THE NAME OF” Jesus Christ, they WERE (past tense) baptized, both men and women.” Philip was preaching “THE NAME OF” Jesus Christ. Philip was preaching about the whole concept of Jesus, who Jesus was, and what He did.

The Samarians were baptized “in the name of Jesus Christ” as Philip preached “the name of Jesus Christ”.

Therefore, the word “baptizing”, as it is applied in the lesson quote, means that the apostles were to immerse their followers into the whole concept of, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost by “teaching” them the whole concept of the same Holy Triune.~

Lesson 4191

 (Lesson 4191)(07-13-23) Matthew 28:16-20

“Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Today, we will explain the baptisms performed by John the Baptist. We will also explain why Jesus was baptized in water.

It is important to note why John baptized in water. John, himself, made that very clear when he said, “I indeed bapize you with water unto (toward or before) repentance”.

It is also VERY important to note that John pointed out a distinct difference between the purpose of water baptism and the baptism that saves one’s eternal soul. That being the soul saving baptism that Jesus would perform with fire and with the Holy Ghost.

As was stated in yesterday’s lesson, John baptized in water by order of the of the Law of Moses. He did it to physically cleanse the bodies of his followers BEFORE they repented.

Jesus had NO sins to wash away, therefore, He was baptized for the exact same purpose that was required by the Law of Moses. He was baptized in water to cleanse His body before He committed Himself to the sacrifice of His own life for the sins of every soul who would believe in Him, the ultimate sacrifice.~

This lesson will continue tomorrow.

4190

 (Lesson 4190)(07-12-23) Matthew 28:16-20

“Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Today we will, from the bible text, demonstrate the original intent of water baptism, and why it was uniquely imposed upon the Jews, under the law.

“Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: You shall also make a laver of bronze, with its base also of bronze, for washing. You shall put it between the tabernacle of meeting and the altar. And you shall put water in it, for Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet in water from it. When they go into the tabernacle of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn an offering made by fire to the LORD, they shall wash with water, lest they die. So they shall wash their hands and their feet, lest they die. And it shall be a statute forever to them- to him and his descendants throughout their generations.” (Exodus 30:17-21)

The Law of moses required ALL Jews to be washed before they entered into ANY religious activity, or as they approached the inner part of the tabernacle. Or as would be called in today’s application, the synagogue.

The ritual of water baptism was done to assure physical cleanliness of the person being baptized before that person entered into the Holy places.~

NOTE: This lesson will continue tomorrow.

 (Lesson 4189)(07-11-23) Matthew 28:16-20

“Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Today’s lesson is a continuance of our study into the meaning, and intent, of the word “baptizing”, as it is applied in “The great commission”.

Today we will establish the true definition of the word “baptize” and it’s grammatical variations, baptism, baptizing, baptized etc.

The word baptize was transliterated to the English language from the Greek word ‘baptizo’, ‘baptidzo’.

It is very important to understand what it means to transliterate, in comparison to what it means to ‘define’.

Transliteration simply replaces the original, in this case, Greek word, with a made up, sound alike word, to replace the word in the original language. Transliteration DOES NOT bring forward the original meaning and intent of the word being transliterated. In short, transliteration does NOTHING to define the original word. Therefore, the word baptize, carries with it NO particular meaning of it’s own. It must rely on the definition of the original Greek form.

The word baptizo, in the Greek language, defines the action of placing one item, or entity, into, or inside another, to permanently alter the state of that item.

The best example of how ‘baptizo’ is to be applied, in practical Greek conversation, is a recipe for pickling that was written by a greek physician and poet called Nicander in about 200 BC. Nicander said, in essence, that in order to make a pickle, one must first “bapto” (dip) the cucumber in boiling water, then place the cucumber in to a brine solution and leave it there. The brine solution actually transforms the cucumber into a pickle ready for consumption.

Today, in truth, our baptism into Jesus Christ, NOT WATER, transforms our eternal soul into a perfectually righteous being worthy of a presence with God the Father in heaven.

NOTE: This lesson will continue tomorrow.~

Lesson 4188

 (Lesson 4188)(07-10-23) Matthew 28:16-20

“Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Today’s quote is what most know as “The Great Commission”. It is one of the most important lessons in the entire bible. It is also one of the most grossly misinterpreted lessons there is to be found in the New Testament.

The misconception centers around the meaning and intent of the word “baptizing” as it is applied in today’s quote. In truth, the baptism that Jesus commanded His

apostles to administer therein, was NOT an immersion into water, as most interpret it to be, but rather, was an instruction to educate as to the existence of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. (This will be explained further as this lesson progresses.)

As a matter of fact, the quote makes no sense if  indeed the baptisms commanded therein were to be immersions in water. It would mean that a person would require THREE separate water baptisms. One in the name of the Father, another in the name of the Son, and yet another in the name of the Holy Ghost. Jesus said “baptizing them in the name of the Father, AND of the Son, AND of the Holy Spirit”. The quote DOES NOT say ‘baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

The structure of the sentence does not allow for only one baptism, if indeed water immersion is implied. It clearly demands three distinctly different actions. Or, at least actions with three different intities.

NOTE: This is only a part of the lesson that is to be taken from today’s quote. We will spend several days in and attempt to establish the true intent of this broadly mis-interpreted lesson.~

Lesson 4187

 (Lesson 4187)(07-09-23) Matthew 28:11-15

“ Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done. And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers, Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and secure you. So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.”

Today’s quote relates that the Jews bribed the Roman soldiers to lie and say that Jesus’ body had been stolen away by His followers. That was done in an attempt to hide the fact that Jesus had been resurrected on the third day, as He promised He would. That act insured that, through faith in the life, death, burial, resurrection and ascension of Jesus, we are assured eternal life. ~

Lesson 4186

 (Lesson 4186)(07-08-23) Matthew 28:8-10

“And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.”

Today’s quote relates that, after Jesus was resurrected, He met with the women who had come to guard His tomb. Jesus told them to spread the news of His ressurection to His followers and to tell them He would meet with them in Galilee.~

Lesson 4185

(Lesson 4185)(07-07-23) Matthew 28:1-7

In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.”

Today’s quote contains the most precious and earthshaking phrase that can be found in the entirety of God’s word, HE IS RISEN! Praise God!~

Lesson 4184

 (Lesson 4184)(07-06-23) Matthew 27:54-66

“Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God. And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him: Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedees children. When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple: He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed. And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre. Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can. So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.”

Today’s quote relates that after Jesus was crucified, He was sealed in a grave and guarded by Roman soldiers.~

Lesson 4183

 (Lesson 4183)(07-05-23) Matthew 27:51-53

“And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.”

Today’s quote relates that when Jesus died, there were earthquakes that brought many of the saints from their graves to bear witness to the gospel of Jesus in Jerusalem.~

Lesson 4182

 (Lesson 4182)(07-04-23) Matthew 27:45-50

“ Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias. And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him. Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.”

Today’s quote relates how our Savior gave up His life that we might have eternal life.~

Lesson 4181

 (Lesson 4181)(07-03-23) Matthew 27:35-44

“And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. And sitting down they watched him there; And set up over his head his accusation written, This Is Jesus The King Of The Jews. Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left. And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God. The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.”

Today’s lesson relates that, as Jesus was being crucified, the Jewish leadership continued to mock and scourge Him.~

Lesson 4180

 (Lesson 4180)(07-02-23) Matthew 27:27-34

“Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross. And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull, They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.”

Today’s quote relates that Jesus was mocked, spat upon, and beaten before being hanged upon the cross. Again, a very sad occurance by one that was necessary so that we may have access to eternal life. Praise God for His infinite wisdom and mercy.~

Lesson 4179

 (Lesson 4179)(07-01-23) Matthew 27:11-26

“ And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest. And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee? And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly. Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would. And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas. Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ? For he knew that for envy they had delivered him. When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him. But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas. Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.”

Today’s quote relates that, after Jesus had been falsely accused, He was handed over to the Romans to be crucified.

A very sad occurrance without which we would have NO access to eternal life. Praise God for His infinite wisdom.~
