(Lesson 3814)(06-28-22) 2nd Corinthians 11:1-5
“ Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. For I suppose I was not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles.”
In today’s lesson, Paul again explained his love for, and trust in, the church at Corinth. Paul also expressed his concern that they might fall away from teaching the true gospel of Christ.
Paul included a phrase in today’s quote that points to the very essence of Christianity, it is, “the simplicity that is in Christ”.
Sadly there are/were those who, then and today, wish/ed to expand upon the “simplicity that is in Christ by demanding that the true gospel be added to with totally unnecessary pomp and ritual.
The way to spiritual rebirth and salvation of one’s eternal soul is as simple as this, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast”. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
“Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, that leadeth unto life, and few are there be that find it”.~
