(Lesson 3671)(01-23-22) Acts 16:13-15
“And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither. And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.”
Today’s quote relates that after Lydia had “attended unto the things which were spoken OF (about) Paul”, she was “baptized”.
I believe that the baptism Lydia underwent was the baptism of the Holy Spirit, NOT a baptism with water.
The text tells us that Lydia a “woman which (already) worshipped God”, underwent her baptism BEFORE she even met with Paul. She evidently heard of his message from someone else. I believe that because the text tells us she “attended unto the things spoken OF (about) Paul, before she was baptized That means she had believed BEFORE she met Paul, “And when she was baptized, and her household, she (THEN) besought us”.~
