(Lesson 3345)(03-01-21) Luke 1:1-4
“ Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.”
Today’s quote begins our study of the book of Luke. This book’, along with the book of Acts, is said to have been have been written by the same author. That author is presumed to be Luke himself.
Luke wrote this gospel letter to Theophilus who was the High Priest at the time of the writing, and was also a brother-in-law to Caiaphas, the High Priest who delivered Jesus to the Romans to be crucified.
The book of Luke was written so that Theophilus, a highly influential man among the Jews, would be assured beyond all doubt, by an eyewitness (Luke), that the gospel of Jesus Christ, was and is, true.~
