Lesson 3285

 (Lesson 3285)(12-31-20) Mark 7:5-8

“Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands? He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.”

I have, today, only posted a part of the lesson that Jesus was relating to the scribes and Pharisees. I did this in order to draw attention to a very important lesson within a lesson that is established in today’s part of the overall quote. We will review the lesson in it’s entirety tomorrow.

We should pay close attention to what Jesus actually said, “This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME, TEACHING FOR DOCTRINES THE COMMANDMENTS OF MEN. For laying aside the commandment of God, YE HOLD THE TRADITION OF MEN, AS THE WASHING OF POSTS AND CUPS: and many other such like things ye do.”

Jesus was making the very clear point that mere washing in water, such as what occurs with water baptism, DOES NOT wash away sins.~
