(Lesson 2883)(11-20-19) 1 Corinthians14:29-40
“ Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”
In today’s quote, Paul gives directions as to how prophecy is to be related from the prophet to the church. The word prophecy, in today’s terminology, can be defined as something that is being predicted from prior knowledge of a particular subject. Prophecy, though it very well can be divine in nature, it is not always necessarily something that has been related by the Spirit of God. Prophecy can also be gleaned from an accumilation of facts that have been discovered from sources that have particular, as of yet, unpublished information. For example, if I have heard from someone who knew the details of a meeting of a particular group, I would be in position to “prophecy” or predict, what that group’s intentions might be. Granting, of course, that prophecy of a divine nature WILL occur as opposed to might in that latter discussion.
To get to the gist of what Paul wrote, any prophet must, before presenting their prophecy to the church, in either type of prophecy, provide someone to stand with him/her who also has definite knowledge of what is to come.
Also in the quote, Paul again encouraged every child of God to study so as to be in a position to accurately predict spiritual events that are to come.~
