(Lesson 2733)(06-18-19) Acts 8:9-12
“But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries. But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.”
Today’s quote relates how Simon, a magician, had, for years, beguiled the people of Samaria with his sorcery.
It is also very important to note that the quote says, “But when they believed Philip PREACHING the things concerning the kingdom of God, AND THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST, they were baptized, both men and women.” The importance of that statement is that it verifies that the “name of” is something that can be preached and believed.
In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus said, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the NAME OF the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you, and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world, Amen.:
Tomorrow we will dig deeper into this lesson to determine what, exactly, is meant by the use of the word “baptized” as it is applied in today’s quote, as well as it’s application in Matthew 28:19-20. ~
