(Lesson 1827)(10-18-16) John 3:19-21
"And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God."
We should make special note that the very first thing Jesus said in today's quote was, "this is the condemnation". He then explained what that "condemnation" was. Jesus that His Jewish brethren were so set in their evil habits that they immediately rejected the Messiah when He came for them.
"The condemnation" Jesus defined was and is applied to those who fail to believe in Christ. What those Jews did in their daily lives didn't matter then, just as what a lost soul does today don't matter to their eternity, because those Jews were then, and those who reject Christ are today, ALREADY condemned. But, because of God's infinite mercy, those Jews who chose to believe in Christ then, as well as those of us who choose to put our faith in Jesus Christ today, are guaranteed eternal life. "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."
