In today's quote Paul sums up the whole intent of his first letter to the Corinthians. Therein we read that nothing mortal man can do is wise enough or great enough to assure the eternal salvation of the soul.
Paul assured us that true wisdom does not come before God, but rather from God; "But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord."

He warned about, and was put off by, those who thought themselves to be high and mighty, those who practiced pomp and ritual who being so sure of themselves, thought they knew it all; "Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples, Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts; "Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation." (Luke 20:45-47)

There is no ritual nor work of human hands that can ever be a part of God's redemption of the immortal soul of mankind; "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day."
