Lesson 962

(Lesson 962)(05-02-14) Luke 8:22-25

"Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth. But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him."

Today's lesson is a short and simple one. In it, Jesus demonstrates His awesome power by commanding the wind and sea to calm, and it did.

Jesus, by His example, assured His followers of His divine authority over the elements.

When Jesus asked, "where is your faith?", He implied that if only if only His Apsotles had commanded the sea and wind to stand still, while being confident in faith that they would obey, they too could have calmed the elements.

We today, who have believed in Jesus Christ, have access to that same power through the gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, "if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done." (Matthew 21:21 in part)

Any obstacle that might stand in from of God's people today can be easily removed simply by relying on the power of the Holy spirit to move it out of our way.~
