Lesson 4566

 (Lesson 4566)(08-04-24) John 16:23-24 

   “And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.” 

 

  In today’s quote, Jesus assured His disciples that in the future, they would not need to ask Him anything directly because the Holy Spirit would be with them. Instead, they can ask the Father for anything in Jesus' name, and the Holy Spirit would give it to them. Jesus emphasized that up until that point, they had not asked for anything in His name, but now they should do so, promising that their joy would be complete when their requests were fulfilled. “Ask and ye shall receive”, what a glorious promise straight from the mouth of God. ~

Lesson 4565

 (Lesson 4565)(08-03-24) John 16:16-22 

   “A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father? They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith. Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me? Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.” 

 

   In today’s quote, Speaking of His upcoming sacrificial ordeal, Jesus told His disciples that in a little while, they would not see Him, and then after a little while, they would see Him again. The disciples were confused by that statement and discussed among themselves what He meant. Jesus then explained that they would weep and mourn while the world rejoiced, but their grief would soon turn to joy. He compared their situation to a woman in labor who experiences pain, but once her child is born, she forgets the anguish because of her joy. Similarly, the disciples would experience sorrow, but their sorrow would be turned into joy when they would see Him again. ~ 

Lesson 4564

 (Lesson 4564)(08-02-24) John 16:13-15 

   “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” 

 

   In today’s lesson, Jesus explained that when the Holy Spirit came to them, He would guide the disciples into all truth. He would not speak on His own authority but would communicate what He heard from the Father. The Holy Spirit would glorify Jesus by taking what belonged to Jesus and making it known to all who would come to believe in Him. Everything that the Father has belongs to Jesus, and that is why the Holy Spirit took what had before belonged to Jesus' and revealed it to us all. What an amazing Savior we serve! ~ 

Lesson 4563

(Lesson 4564)(08-01-24) John 16:1-12 

  These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you. But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.” 

 

   In today’s quote, Jesus continued to prepare His disciples for the time when He would no longer be physically present with them. He warned them about the persecution they would face from those who thought they were serving God by opposing those who truly followed Him. Jesus told them these things in advance so that they wouldn't be caught off guard or lose faith when the persecution began. He explained that He was going to the Father, and although the disciples were filled with sorrow, it was actually beneficial for them that He left. That is because His departure would allow the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, to come. The Holy Spirit would convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. Jesus said that He had many more things to tell them, but that they would not yet understand them. ~
