Lesson 5386

 Lesson 5386)(11-05-26) Luke 14:12-15

" Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just. And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God."

Today's quote teaches us about true, selfless hospitality. Therein, Jesus challenged the common human practice of giving gifts, hosting dinners, or showing kindness only to those who can return the favor or elevate our social standing. Instead, He calls us to care for the vulnerable, the poor, and those who can offer nothing in return, reminding us that true motives should look past worldly rewards and await God's eternal blessing. ~  NOTE: I will be out of town till Monday 11/09/26, our lessons will resume then. Sorry, I'll try to do better.

Lesson 5385

 Lesson 5385)(11-04-26) Luke 14:7-11

" And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them. When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted."

In today's quote, Jesus told a parable about guests scrambling for the best seats at a wedding feast. He advised us to instead take the worst seats, so the host might honor us by moving us to better seats. This lesson teaches us that true humility and modesty are far greater in God's eyes than pride, self-promotion, or seeking higher status than others. ~

Lesson 5384

 Lesson 5384)(11-03-26) Luke 14:1-6

" And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him. And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy. And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go; And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day? And they could not answer him again to these things."

In today's quote, Jesus healed a man with dropsy on the Sabbath while dining at a Pharisee's house. He challenged the Jewish leaders' rigid legalism by asking if it was lawful to heal on the Sabbath. Today, this passage teaches us that acts of mercy, compassion, and human need always take precedence over strict religious traditions and empty rituals, reminding us to prioritize genuine love and kindness toward others over mere outward religious conformity. ~

Lesson 5383

 Lesson 5383)(11-02-26) Luke 13:29-35

" And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last. The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee. And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected. Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!  Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord."

Today's quote speaks of people coming from all directions to share in God's kingdom, while warning against rejecting God's timing. For us today, the lesson is a reminder to embrace God's grace and salvation without delay, recognizing that Jesus deeply desires to save us all, much like a mother hen gathers her babies under her wings, before our opportunities pass us by. ~

Lesson 5382

 Lesson 5382)(11-01-26) Luke 13:23-28

“Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out."

In today's quote, Jesus warned us not to rely on the fact that we have occupied the same pew in some church for the better part of our lives as a contributing factor to get into us heaven, but instead we are to urgently make sure we are right with God through faith in the shed blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. He explained that the gate to salvation is narrow and "few there be that find it", and will one day be permanently shut. That means that simply knowing about Jesus or having some religious background is not enough to save anyone if we do not truly repent our ways and turn to Him by absolute faith. For us today, the lesson means that seeking God requires personal commitment and urgency, because the opportunity to accept Him will not last forever. ~
